I have always preferred hiring designers who I can give an entire project to. I want people who can frame up a user problem, explore the solution space with functional prototypes, produce high fidelity production designs/code, and also be involved in the testing and refinement of said solutions. This is a LOT to ask of most designers, but the best generalists can usually play all four quarters of the game.

I feel seen. I should put that on my resume.
