Lots of small, wry things from David resonates with my experience
not a single person on earth is capable of publishing a valid and logical RSS feed
It’s remarkable how “temporary” turns into technical debt so quickly
My solution stress tested the phrase “it ain’t stupid if it works”.
I wrongly assumed 3rd-party data would be in any shape coherent. How naive I was.
Some very relatable lines here:
I’m just looking for a few libraries to build a website. Why does everything have to be a lifestyle choice?
My codebase is 100 megabytes and I’ve yet to write a single line of code. My project’s root directory is littered with JSON, YML, and dot files.
I wrote about dot files in 2021 and it still strikes a chord.
I prefer to manually syndicate. I.e. copy & paste a link and write a thoughtful gist. I think scripting that would be less engaging. Personally I don’t care for automated feeds. I can’t expect others to interact with mine if I automated it.
Me too!
I have to admit — and I realize I need to just get over this, I suppose — I feel this same hesitancy when others post and you can tell it’s automated (like cross-posting). It’s this feeling of, “Should I respond to this? Idk…” It’s like you can feel just a tinge of the “A robot posted this, do I respond?”
